EP Collection
On January 31, 2008 at the opening of New York City's Fashion Week, Earth Pledge gathered over 800 of the most influential members of the fashion community for a spectacular runway show at Gotham Hall. The FutureFashion. collection of one-of-a-kind sustainable ensembles were made by the world's leading fashion designers and worn by the world's most recognizable faces. From Stella McCartney and Burberry to Ralph Lauren and Yves Saint Laurent, the show illustrated how style and substance can co-exist while addressing sustainability in a uniquely modern way. A special thank you to our generous sponsors - Lexus Hybrid Living, Pure & Natural and Barneys New York. On the West Coast, Earth Pledge was busy adding new designers to the FutureFashion. collection and helped kick-off Los Angeles Fashion Week in March. With a panel at the Pacific Design Center and a cocktail party on the lawn of the Mayor's mansion in Hancock Park, Earth Pledge, Designers & Agents and the CFDA helped set the mood for an exciting week of wonderful design while raising visibility for the stylish sustainable choices now available in the fashion industry. Malaysia Hosts Inaugural ecoStyle Conference
In early December, Earth Pledge took the FutureFashionTM collection on the road and added some of the top Asian designers for a multi-day event in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. "ecoStyle" was Asia's first dedicated event focusing on sustainable style and design with a mandate to educate the industry and consumers on achievable ways of adjusting choices and attitudes for the benefit of the planet. In addition to the FutureFashion. show and a panel discussion for the press, there was an inaugural ecoStyle award given to a leading global designer currently demonstrating the most environmentally friendly and stylish innovations in design. Nominees included: Anna Cohen, Jurlique, Knoll, Q Collection Junior, Stella McCartney, Terra Plana and the ecoStyle award winner was Malaysian architect Dr. Ken Yeang, who invented the bioclimatic skyscraper. Materials Library Tops 1000
Earth Pledge's materials library currently boasts over 1200 sustainable sources for fashion and interiors. The library will continue to grow with the best materials from around the world and we're developing new testing measures to ensure the highest quality. Along with the ever-growing textile library, the FutureFashion. initiative continues to educate and arm the fashion industry with better materials and methods. We are currently planning to host workshops for designers and have plans to make the materials library available through partnering design schools. Noteworthy: On February 2nd, Executive Director Leslie Hoffman spoke at the OTIS College of Art of Design in LA about sustainable design and environmental challenges in the fashion industry. Her lecture, "FutureFashion: Where Green is Gorgeous" was given to a standing room only crowd. New Carbon Offset Initiative - Limit 450
Earth Pledge's new Limit 450 initiative was created to limit carbon to 450 parts per million in the atmosphere, and help avoid the devastating effects of climate change. Our Limit 450 initiative works directly with farmers across the country to support their carbon mitigation and sequestration practices. First, farmers are educated and encouraged to reduce their own carbon emissions. Then, we help them institute sequestration practices they can sell as offsets, helping others to achieve carbon neutrality.
Sundance Filmmakers Consider Carbon Footprint
In January, at this year's Sundance Film Festival, Earth Pledge launched the Limit 450 carbon offset strategy to a group of interested filmmakers. A thorough presentation on Limit 450's carbon sequestration through farm practices introduced them a method to help reduce the environmental impact of their filmmaking carbon footprint. Green Roofs Update!
Serviam Gardens in the Bronx Earth Pledge is working with Fordham Bedford on our newest green roof in the Bronx. This project is on an affordable housing complex called Serviam Gardens and is the result of a cooperative fundraising effort with House & Garden Magazine and Crate and Barrel. Together, as part of New York City's first ever Design Week, we worked to raise awareness for the intersection of affordable housing and sustainable design and the result was the addition of another green roof in the Viridian line-up. Cascade Minor Senior Housing in Seattle Along with the Bronx project, Earth Pledge is pleased to announce the installation of another Viridian green roof in Seattle, Washington. This green roof will be built at Cascade Minor, a new affordable senior housing facility in Seattle. The entire facility will boast a lush green atmosphere designed to utilize the most effective sustainable strategies.
Los Angeles Gets a Lesson in Storm Water
On March 6, Earth Pledge gave a presentation at the first-ever storm water conference in Los Angeles. This conference, attended by more than 500 locals, city officials and developers, was intended to educate the community about the effects of storm water on the waterways and beaches while addressing the ways to mitigate storm water runoff, such as green roofs.
Farmers Education Fund Gets A Healthy Dose
Thanks to support from Quaker Simple Harvest, Earth Pledge's Farm to Table has developed a new Farmers Fund to educate farmers on best practices and new sustainable agricultural technologies, enabling them to provide wholesome food to consumers while maintaining the earth's natural resources and increasing farm profitability.
Lexus Hybrid Living Creates Buzz-Worthy Fundraising Effort for Earth Pledge
The Lexus Hybrid Living Campaign introduced a "pass it along" campaign designed to drive consumers online to Facebook.com and to raise money for Earth Pledge. For every "H" someone passed along via email, Lexus contributed to Earth Pledge. In a short time, the magic "H" was passed along to over 250,000 consumers.
Earth Pledge Out & About
Earth Pledge participated in the GO GREEN EXPO on April 26 - 27 in New York City. This two-day trade show included small and large companies all gathered to demonstrate how they are respectively working to reduce their carbon footprint. Additionally, the trade show offered consumers a 'hands-on' experience with eco-friendly alternatives to current everyday products and services. Earth Pledge held court in the Green Room at New York's d&a (designer & agents) trade show on May 2-3. The d&a show is an independent market that hosts over 1,000 cutting edge collections. Their greening efforts are meant to spotlight eco-conscious designers, educate vendors about better choices practices and further enhance d&a's own green profile. Don't forget to tune into Planet Green on Wednesday, June 4th! For more information about Earth Pledge, visit us at www.earthpledge.org or send an email to info@earthpledge.org
